Direct Support Supervisor

Direct Support Supervisor – HIRING BONUS- $2,000. Assist in implementing the mission of Opportunity Living by coordinating the human and material resources within assigned residential settings to promote client/member participation and provide opportunities for growth. Provide supervision, leadership, and training to assigned staff to ensure all standards for documentation, client care, and needs are being met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the human and material resources assigned to each residential setting to create an environment which promotes dignity and self-fulfillment.
- Communicate with all Opportunity Living personnel, families, and the public in a courteous and professional manner. Perform duties in a manner that will produce a positive role model for staff and clients.
- Conduct all client/member activities in accordance with safety practices and emergency procedures as scheduled.
- Manage the maintenance and routine physical care of the residential setting, which further includes the appropriate and safe use of equipment and materials in relation to that location. Ensure that rooms are neat and orderly.
- Serve as an advocate for each client’s/member’s rights by promoting people-first language, actions, and services, as well as client participating and choice.
- Assist in monitoring monthly hours used to staff each residential setting and keep overtime to an appropriate minimum level.
- Assist in monitoring client accounts to ensure adequate funds are available and know how the client’s money has been spent.
- Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of policies and procedures pertaining to residential services.
- Participate in an established on-call system.
- Respond to concerns voiced by client’s families or parents/legal guardians, and staff in a timely manner.
- Ensure implementation of individual client/member programs by prompt follow-up on program observations completed by the completed by the Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).
- Monitor staff interaction with clients in the classrooms a minimum of two (2) hours per week.
- Ensure quality services by knowing and training staff on policies, procedures, regulations, and legal requirements and by helping to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Provide ongoing supervision, direction, and support to all staff assigned to each residential setting
- Work a minimum of eight (8) hours per month on the weekends in the residential setting or at the activity center.
- Work one evening per week until 8:00 p.m.
- Complete a formal mealtime observation at every meal at least once per month and informal observations routinely. Utilize observations to give feedback and determine necessary direction, training and supervision.
- Arrange for and accompany clients/members and staff on outings for shopping, haircuts, medical/dental appointments, and others as needed
- Work with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) regarding placement of clients/members at Opportunity Living.
- Actively participate in the survey process conducted by the Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) or other surveying agencies.
- Provide, locate, or clarify information to the surveyor as requested.
- Know and follow regulations and standards that are necessary to maintain licensure
- Assist in the development of the plan of correction regarding deficiencies in appropriate areas
- Utilize the information to implement necessary changes to continually work on quality improvement of services provided.
- In conjunction with the Director of Programming and Services, other department directors and support services, identify training needs of Opportunity Living in regards to client/member services.
- Provide coordination and communication with all departments on behalf of clients/members to assist in carrying out programs in all departments.
- Develop an empowered staff by providing supervision, clarifying job responsibilities as assigned, setting standards of excellence, and involving staff in decision-making process.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for assigned staff.
- Provide conflict mediation by prompt intervention, followed by training, coaching, or counseling if needed.
- Provide regular communication, feedback, and information sharing with staff.
- Facilitate residential meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain flexibility of schedules to provide adequate coverage.
- Assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the organization by performing all duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
- Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education, in-services, and personal growth experiences.
- Protect the privacy of clients/members and staff by maintaining the confidentiality of records and personal information and follow all policies and procedures under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a human services field or health care setting.
- Must have experience in a supervisor, leadership or counseling role, or human resource management, assessment, and treatment of persons with disabilities.
- Must have completed the Direct Support Professional Training (DSPT) or equivalent training.
- Must have good organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to lead a team.
- Must have sincere respect for and desire to work with persons with disabilities.

- Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks.
- Clear tuberculosis screening.
- Ability to pass and maintain required training such as CPR/First Aid, Dependent Adult/Child Abuse, and Behavior Management Program, or other training as assigned per specific job duties.
